About Me

My photo
I am a full-time mama with a passion for writing and talking to fascinating people. I live in a one horse town with a Cowboy and my son. Thank Lord for cyberspace! I lived a colourful life in Sydney for a number of years. Working in advertising and journalism for FPC and the Sydney Morning Herald. During my time in Sydney I competed in a Dragon Boat race, choreographed a dragshow, used the Share Accomodation advertisements as a way to meet men and was told by Noiseworks frontrunner Jon Stevens that I was a bitch! Then came the decision to move back to country for 3 months to help out my Father with newspaper business while he was having treatment. Convinced I was a city girl I was caught by surprise when I fell in love with a farmer (and no, he didn't want a wife... still doesn't it seems!) convinced him that we needed to see the world, popped off to Vietnam to teach english in Saigon - before realising that the "food" in Nam didn't agree with me... turned out to be Monte - my son who is now with the Cowboy and I back in country NSW! I am in a wonderful stage of my life where I am focusing on the things that really make me tick. Including writing these chronicles.

Fresh sounds - better loud - Kylie Auldist CD Review

Last month I interviewed a woman who does what she loves: Kylie Auldist, which you can read here
Yesterday I got myself a copy of her new CD Made of Stone. It is indeed worthy of a blog post!

Having a new CD in the house was the impetus for Cowboy and I to have a nice wine and nibbles evening!
Something we hadn't done for a long time. We thought we'd have a chat and a listen to Kylie's album.
As we babbled on we agreed that the CD was great background music.
That is what I thought last night anyway.
Today as Cowboy trotted off to do his Cowboy things I decided to do the all important second listen.
The second listen always lets you know how good a CD is.
As does having the music loud, or coming at you direct through headphones.
-Well strike me down!
I quickly came to the conclusion this CD is better - played loud.
A voice like that is not made for background music.
Her voice is strong, soulful and covers an impressive range!
God tailored that voice for centre-stage.
I found the CD to be all sorts of funky.
Before I knew it Monte was bopping and squealing , and I was wiping the kitchen bench with a slight shimmy.
With the volume at an optimal level it allowed me to appreciate the instruments that accompany Kylie more than I did with it just in the background.
There is some big band stuff going on in here.
Fresh sounding big band stuff.
This CD certainly feels fresh and original.
Highlight tracks for me after second listen were 'In a week, in a day", "Lookin' for you' , "Ship Inside a bottle" and "Rosie."
"Rosie" is written about Kylie's aunt who lost her battle with cancer.
It is a touching tribute - written in a celebratory style.
I really recommend this CD if you appreciate TALENT in its purest form.
And you know what? This talented gal is from my one-horse town. Another good reason to check it out.
Must be something in the water out here :-)

Look out for her. You can buy the album here or any good record store as they say.
