About Me

My photo
I am a full-time mama with a passion for writing and talking to fascinating people. I live in a one horse town with a Cowboy and my son. Thank Lord for cyberspace! I lived a colourful life in Sydney for a number of years. Working in advertising and journalism for FPC and the Sydney Morning Herald. During my time in Sydney I competed in a Dragon Boat race, choreographed a dragshow, used the Share Accomodation advertisements as a way to meet men and was told by Noiseworks frontrunner Jon Stevens that I was a bitch! Then came the decision to move back to country for 3 months to help out my Father with newspaper business while he was having treatment. Convinced I was a city girl I was caught by surprise when I fell in love with a farmer (and no, he didn't want a wife... still doesn't it seems!) convinced him that we needed to see the world, popped off to Vietnam to teach english in Saigon - before realising that the "food" in Nam didn't agree with me... turned out to be Monte - my son who is now with the Cowboy and I back in country NSW! I am in a wonderful stage of my life where I am focusing on the things that really make me tick. Including writing these chronicles.

Choose your own Sharni Adventure

I wonder if you have a Writing Challenge for me? An Assignment? I know that may seem lazy...

My mind is bogged in websites and festivals and the blogging component of my brain is not getting much love.

I do wish to write. Sometimes something meaningful comes from a topic suggestion. Makes me delve into something I hadn't thought of myself...

Help me dig out something good. I don't want to write odes to PMS or do lazy little intermissions.

You deserve better.

So, is there anything you want to know about? Or just a quirky writing challenge? Please be my brain in these here frantic times.

Hit me with your bloggy sticks - hit me! hit me!

  1. How about ... three movie and/or book characters that you connected with the most. I don't mean that you thought were cool or wish you looked like, or that had a cutesy love story that you envied...i mean a woman in a story who pulled on your soul while you read/watched. a woman that you read about and thought "my God, that is EXACTLY how i felt when such-and-such happened to me and I can't believe that someone else understands how that feels"

  2. or how about doing a running narrative of Monte? Watch him closely for an hour, right down everything he does step by step "picked up yellow block, tasted it, made face, tasted it again, dropped it, picked up old broken shoelace, tried to stuff it in his shirt...etcetc" and then when you are done, try to right a comical inner monologue of what Monte was contemplating during that time. We all wish we could hear their thoughts...but the best lines I have ever heard were from Steven Wright. He quotes the inner thoughts of a newborn "Day one: still tired from the move. Day two: everyone talks to me like i'm an idiot"

  3. A story of your childhood that was fundamental in shaping who you are today.

A sliding doors moment... or a fork in the road that might have (or did) change your path.

  8. I'd love to read a 'Sliding Doors' kinda thing. You know how your life would've turned out if you had/hadn't done some thing.

  10. What are you passionate about? You know, the type of topic that gets the blood boiling and the passion flowing? We each have one, our achilles heel of irrationality...
