About Me

My photo
I am a full-time mama with a passion for writing and talking to fascinating people. I live in a one horse town with a Cowboy and my son. Thank Lord for cyberspace! I lived a colourful life in Sydney for a number of years. Working in advertising and journalism for FPC and the Sydney Morning Herald. During my time in Sydney I competed in a Dragon Boat race, choreographed a dragshow, used the Share Accomodation advertisements as a way to meet men and was told by Noiseworks frontrunner Jon Stevens that I was a bitch! Then came the decision to move back to country for 3 months to help out my Father with newspaper business while he was having treatment. Convinced I was a city girl I was caught by surprise when I fell in love with a farmer (and no, he didn't want a wife... still doesn't it seems!) convinced him that we needed to see the world, popped off to Vietnam to teach english in Saigon - before realising that the "food" in Nam didn't agree with me... turned out to be Monte - my son who is now with the Cowboy and I back in country NSW! I am in a wonderful stage of my life where I am focusing on the things that really make me tick. Including writing these chronicles.

Word up to 2010

I feel the peer pressure to deliver something either of the 2009 summary variety, or of the hopes for 2010 variety.

I have read some fantastic versions of all of these.

I'm loving Kathy from Lessons from the Monk I married's vow to do 365 lessons.... and I admire her putting it out there to do so!

A bold commitment, but one I am sure this very gal who has just returned from 10 day silent meditation can achieve.

If I could do 10 mins silent meditation, I would do a little twirl!

I like Eileen from Consumption Rebel's 'word of the year' idea as opposed to NY Resolutions.

NY resolutions are things we just never do - so it's high time we threw that word out the window and evolved.

I'm with you Eileen.

My word for the year is embrace.

This year I am going to embrace EVERY opportunity that I create and that comes my way.

I am going to embrace my individuality, embrace what is available to me in the OHT, and literally embrace people - both of the 3D and 2D variety...

So, I feel right about now I should jot down my commitments for 2010 and how I'm going to embrace the year.

Let me list the ways: And yes - you will notice I am writing these in a matter of fact, like I have already achieved them sort of way - that is how the experts say one must do it.

Heregoes:

1) The Cowboy, the Prince and I will make our way to Canada in August (my sis and her family will be living there) - and I will tottle of to New York City for the 2010 Blogher Conference.

Who else is in???

Come on, how FANTASTIC would that be to take an Aussie Blogging Posse over there!! ???

Anyone?

Anyone??

 Beuller?

Oh and if you are in America already. Can I stay at your house??? haha

2) I will launch my website : Sharnanigans!!!

It will be funny, inspirational, helpful, will have a loyal following, it will earn me money, be my passion, feature fascinating people - it will make me twirl, do chair dances - breakdance and wake up pumped.

Yep - working on this website, for some reason.... is my passion.

I feel this is the year I am livin' the dream.

All my 'working life' i have had a little note above my computer that reads "Do what you love and the money will follow"

This is the year it is going to happen my friends. Mark that in your diaries.

3) I will land some online writing gigs while I am waiting for Sharnanigans the website to make me its fortune. People I meet through the blogosphere will actually help me out with that. Thanks in advance guys!

4) I will mama my own way, flick away the 'How to' books and trust my instincts. I will raise Monte with as more natural stimulation and less toys, tv and clutter... I will not fall victim to the 'more, more' consumer mentality - thanks Eileen - and I will raise him to lead an authentic life from the inside out, not the outside in.
Monte will have a fantastic, fun filled year, developing at his own pace, feeling loved, secured and excited about the world.

5) I will be a Beacon of good health!
 Oh yes I will.
This is the year that lollies will be but a distant memory and spinach will light up my life just as a chico, or strawberry and cream once did.
I will be full-time buff.
None of this yo-yo exercising of the last decade. Fit one month, fat the next. I will be permanently tort. Exercise will be part of my day. I walk every morning - without fail, non-negotiable, do weights 3 times a week and kayak the rest of the time. In fact I could very well become a champion Kayaker.
Watch your backs.

6) I will have THE BEST time in Melbourne in Feb with the Cowboy (our first trip away since having Monte, without Monte) it will be romantic, but most of all fun and relaxing!!! And yes, oh dear Lord, we are going to the ACDC concert (kill me now)

7) I commit to taking Monte to a different part of the OHT every day.
Show him something new, whether it be a sheep, a horse, a chicken - different part of the river. I vow to MAKE THE MOST OF WHERE I LIVE instead of wishing I was somewhere more dazzling. I have really come to realise that it doesn't matter where you live, its how happy you are inside that counts.

8) Having said that, this year I would like to really explore potential places for the Cowboy, Prince and I to move to. We want somewhere close to a bigger centre, inspiring, beautiful, nice restaurants, cafe, sporting facilities - a body of water.... any suggestions would be happily received!

9) I'd love to do bloggy meet ups in Australia! Start up something like the BLOGHER conference in NY - over here - what do you think? Guest speakers, cocktails, oh... hmmm.. going to ponder this one more, just popped in to my head while I was minding my own business.

10) Commit myself to nurturing my spiritual side, which reminds me I finished Alice Grist's book - High Heeled Guide to Enlightenment and I ADORE IT, recommend it and will be doing a giveaway for it soon. Let me know if you have any questions you modern gals wondering how to become enlightened - she will be doing a guest post shortly.. she is a cracking writer.

11) I commit to finding more blogs that I love and connecting with more fabulous people on the internet (and 3D ones wouldn't hurt either)

12) I will care less about my hair, and more about things I do have power over... (but does anyone know a great hairdresser in Melbourne..... I will give it one last shot before finally learning the lesson that hair cannot deliver happiness)

13) I commit to writing from the heart, and with my own voice and oh I don't know.... surely that is enough?

2009 was the best year of my life, and this year will be even better...

Its only the beginning, and I've already gone and lost my mind....

So what up? Will you stick with me in 2010 - as the Chronicles evolve into Sharnanigans?

Oh and who is coming to New York?

  2. Your list is straight from your heart Sharni and I have no doubt that you will live the life you want to live. I wish I had known myself as well as you do when I was your age! I'd love to come to New York but it won't be this year! I have other fish to fry! I can see us meeting up soon though and some of the other Aussie She Writers as well. Good luck with all your hopes and dreams in 2010!

  3. Geez, you say no resolutions and then you just go and write a whole long list of the buggers.

Nah, it's good to have some good goals to stick to.

I think you should move to Brisbane. Because, why not?

  6. Can I just borrow your list of COMMITMENTS and stick them on my fridge?
My brain has stopped functioning lately due to lack of nocturnal rejuvenation.

And New York? Hell yeah. I just have to make a bazillion dollars before then. No problem. :)
