About Me

My photo
I am a full-time mama with a passion for writing and talking to fascinating people. I live in a one horse town with a Cowboy and my son. Thank Lord for cyberspace! I lived a colourful life in Sydney for a number of years. Working in advertising and journalism for FPC and the Sydney Morning Herald. During my time in Sydney I competed in a Dragon Boat race, choreographed a dragshow, used the Share Accomodation advertisements as a way to meet men and was told by Noiseworks frontrunner Jon Stevens that I was a bitch! Then came the decision to move back to country for 3 months to help out my Father with newspaper business while he was having treatment. Convinced I was a city girl I was caught by surprise when I fell in love with a farmer (and no, he didn't want a wife... still doesn't it seems!) convinced him that we needed to see the world, popped off to Vietnam to teach english in Saigon - before realising that the "food" in Nam didn't agree with me... turned out to be Monte - my son who is now with the Cowboy and I back in country NSW! I am in a wonderful stage of my life where I am focusing on the things that really make me tick. Including writing these chronicles.

The Cowboy (he may kill me)

This is my Cowboy - and these are some of his pictures.
He works out in the heat and the dust and though he is a cowboy, he works with sheep.
I don't get it. Anyway.
Yes he is gorgeous.
Yes he is good to me.
Yes he climbed up to a nest with Wedge tailed Eagles in them so he could show me the pic.
Yes sometimes he works in Armageddon-like conditions.
Yes he comes home dusty.
Some days resembling a negative.
Sometimes even the whites of his eyes aren't white.
I never thought I would end up with a Cowboy.
Let alone one that works with sheep.
I had always imagined I would be with a city slicker.
I am so glad that things don't always pan out how you imagine.
I have snagged myself a great one.
Since I have known him my life as I knew it has been turned on its head and I haven't looked back.
He is a great Dad, great de-facto (haha) , great cook and is very supportive of my every whim.
What more could a girl want I ask?
He will be so embarrassed that I wrote this.
Just another thing I love about him.
God, we are opposites.

  4. He and my Dad would've gotten on really well. My Dad worked sheep and cattle (and lucerne) farms all his life! Before he passed, I used to marvel at his hands, the lines on his face. They all told a story.

I hope your bub gets to feel that some day. What an awesome way to be brought up and experience. I miss it soooo much.

  8. Good on you for celebrating your Man ! He sounds (and looks) like a really decent bloke. Know any more you could send my way ??? But seriously, don't let him fell embarrassed...I think we need to hear more of the good scenarios that work and the men who can be men but supportive and loving as well.
