About Me

My photo
I am a full-time mama with a passion for writing and talking to fascinating people. I live in a one horse town with a Cowboy and my son. Thank Lord for cyberspace! I lived a colourful life in Sydney for a number of years. Working in advertising and journalism for FPC and the Sydney Morning Herald. During my time in Sydney I competed in a Dragon Boat race, choreographed a dragshow, used the Share Accomodation advertisements as a way to meet men and was told by Noiseworks frontrunner Jon Stevens that I was a bitch! Then came the decision to move back to country for 3 months to help out my Father with newspaper business while he was having treatment. Convinced I was a city girl I was caught by surprise when I fell in love with a farmer (and no, he didn't want a wife... still doesn't it seems!) convinced him that we needed to see the world, popped off to Vietnam to teach english in Saigon - before realising that the "food" in Nam didn't agree with me... turned out to be Monte - my son who is now with the Cowboy and I back in country NSW! I am in a wonderful stage of my life where I am focusing on the things that really make me tick. Including writing these chronicles.

  3. Whenever I think of you (yes, I'm whoring around my fave blogs, withdrawal is a bitch) I see you floating on that river on the kayak. Tricking the universe (hubs) into getting me a stand up paddle board for my birthday, Hawaiian style.

    He's got 3 weeks.

    Happy Australia day!

  4. I think it's the heroin you must have sprinkled throughout your site - you're addictive!!
Nah, I think it's your writing style, the fact that I can relate to your story (new mama, exploring sprituality, memories of country life for me etc.) and the fact you are just plain funny. I like the celeb stuff, but to be honest, I like hearing about you more.

  5. Ah Sharni you are an inspirational writer - showing us all that life is interesting no matter where you live and what you do, as long as you have a positive attitude, a sense of humour and a healthy curiosity. I especially like your little observations about Monte, and your stories about OHT life. I also loved the Jon Stevens series - you sure know the meaning of a cliffhanger.

  6. I love hearing about your life. I love sharing the little moments of your day. I love your energy and enthusiasm for the blog world. I love your sense of adventure and fun. I love that you feel scared and uncertain but that you do stuff any way. It feels good to know that there is a person like you in the world that I am 2D connected to. All of that inspires me.
Thanks Sharni! You can keep the "alien ears" DVD :)

  7. Hi Sharni,

Your blog is what's missing from the Hay paper! I miss your piece in there and the photos, stories and general funny insights to life in general.

My favourite blog would have to be "Looking at where you live through fresh eyes". As we both live in the same town I know exactly what you mean. It's very easy to get sick of it but when I thought about Hay as a tourist it gives it a breath of fresh air! River, golf, walking down the street, gardens, the park, sport, coffee, friendly people...it really is a great place to live and thanks to you I see it in this way, with fresh eyes.

One day I will get my own blog started!!

Leave a thoughtful comment regarding what you like about the Chronicles of Sharnia and what about it makes you read, what your favourite posts are and what you would like to see more of.

  8. I love your blog, as I see a lot of similarities between the things that you're drawn to that I am too. I love that you think deep and you're not afraid to talk spiritual, yet you manage not to come across as a tree-hugging hippy! It paves the way for the rest of us to be open and honest about our own beliefs. And the honesty, on that note, is very welcome too. I don't think you need to change anything. I love the mix of deep thoughts and light-heartedness too.

Dude this is so you in like 100 years

I know it is short and just a small bit of humour in the vastness of blogging, but I thought it stood out. It represents you, to me. Because: 1) you find super interesting people of all kinds, in all places, with all sorts of views and stories. 2) you are dedicated to what you are passionate about..a place where so many of us seem to vacillate between motivation and self-doubt.
I still want to plan for that life swap someday because I want to stand in your shoes and feel the inspiration of an amazingly talented, ambitious and successful woman!
